Possibly a spurious reconstruction, considering that an original /i/ would be expected to reduce in this position. In that case, the descendants below simply reflect later formations based on descendants of cocīnāre (“cook”, verb). Alternatively, the reduction of /i/ was prevented by analogical influence from the same verb.
