Hiragana

Seriously 'most often in hiragana'? From what I've known I've seen both the kanji and the hiragana form with about equal chances. Even an anime/manga title (Ore no imouto) uses the kanji form(considering the fact that these titles usually use informal writing). Question mark on this.

I see your concern and have changed it from "most often" to "often". The reason behind this emphasis on its hiragana form is that the hiragana entry for this term on Wiktionary かわいい is just a redirect, making it look like the kanji-containing form is the "correct" spelling. Metioning the usage of its hiragana form counterbalances the impression, I believe. Whym (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Pronunciation "before the contraction"

It is unclear if the word before contraction was initially realized as *[kahahayushi] or as *[kawawayushi]. - That does not seem to go together with the fact that we do list the uncontracted form as かわはゆし. Korn [kʰũːɘ̃n] (talk) 19:39, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Phonemic /p/ became [β] and later [w] after vowels fairly on, but the initial /p/ to /h/ shift is much later (to the point that Portuguese missionaries transcribed it as ‘f’ in their dictionaries); so, phonemically (and anachronistically), it’s /h/, but in practice it was pronounced /w/ since before Heian if I’m not mistaken. 2A06:C701:4917:800:85D0:85BC:8D3B:50BE 18:55, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
