When would the word "gate" have been created? Both words seem to be from the same root. Could something like this be added to the etymology part? Bernburgerin 14:47, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Possible entries? See Gates of horn and ivory. These get a mention in Chambers 1908 ("horn-gate, one of the two gates of Dreams, through which pass those visions that come true, while out of the ivory-gate pass the unreal") and the original Greek etymology is interesting.
