Usage edit

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Leigh Hunt's work The Descent of Liberty (1st edition, 1815). The template can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).

Parameters edit

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |chapter=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the parts of the work indicated in the "Result" column of the following table, specify as the value of this parameter the text indicated in the "Parameter value" column:
Parameter value Result
Preface Preface
Origin Some Account of the Origin & Nature of Masks
Ode Ode for the Spring of 1814
  • |1= or |page=; or |pages=mandatory: the page number(s), either in Arabic numerals if quoting from the main text, or in lowercase Roman numerals if quoting from the other parts of the work indicated above. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11 or |pages=x–xi.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to enable the template to determine the part of the work quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the work.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
