Hi. When listing antonyms, the gloss needs to show the meaning of the word whose antonym this is, NOT the meaning of the antonym. Please see my fix at [1]. Equinox ◑ 13:10, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
The opposite of add is subtract. Reduce is the opposite of add to. Please check your grammar! Equinox ◑ 14:45, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- The opposite of add (to make the quantity more; Japanese : 加える, 追加する) is reduce (make the quantity fewer; Japanese : 減らす, 削減する), isnt' it? --61.193.184.118 23:55, 26 October 2013, time of Japan
- "Add" doesn't mean "make the quantity more"; that would be "increase". Consider: "I increased x (or the value of x) by adding 3 to it". Compare: "I added 3 to x" (I did not "add x"). Equinox ◑ 15:15, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- The opposite of "reduce" is both "increase" and "add", isn't it?" For example, the opposite of "We reduced using bolts." (whether instantly or later) would be two patterns : "We increased using bolts." (instantly) or "We added using bolts." (later). --61.193.184.118 01:00, 27 October 2013, time of Japan
- Your sentences don't look right. Assuming you mean the mechanical fasteners: "We reduced the use of bolts"; "we increased the use of bolts"; definitely not "we added using bolts", and not "we added the use of bolts". Equinox ◑ 16:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- 財産を殖やす
- zaisan o fuyasu
- add to one's fortune
- 財産を殖やす
- Note that the example uses 殖やす, an alternative spelling of 増やす. There's a minor nuance which is that 殖やす is often used in the context of wealth or savings.
- By the way, recently the Japanese templates have been updated so that less typing is necessary. If it's ok I'll demonstrate by tweaking the formatting at 滅亡.
