Re diff, are there really two different senses of the word? Is it not the case that (deprecated template usage) umami refers to but one taste, and that that taste happens to be both of certain meats, etc., and also of MSG?—msh210℠ (talk) 05:11, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I think an argument can be made for two senses, as the word originally has the meaning of 'deliciousness' similar to the origins of the word 'savory', but when used to excess, it is not so much describing 'deliciousness' as 'degree of savoriness' or perhaps 'depth of flavor'.
