poutine n (Canada)

A dish consisting of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy, eaten primarily in Canada. Chiefly with a qualifying word: any of a number of variations on the basic poutine dish. Today is Canada Day or Fête du Canada, the national day of Canada which celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation on this day in 1867.
