From ad (“name, title”) + -ı (possessive suffix) + üst (“top, upper”) + -ü (possessive suffix) + -(n)de (locative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally “its name is on it”.

- Used to indicate that the name of a thing is self-explanatory or self-describing, that it suggests the qualities or attributes it displays.
- Çünkü adı üstünde o bir çocuk ve çocuk gibi gördüğünü yapar. ― Because he is, as the name suggests, a child and does what he sees as a child would.
- İstisnalar elbette vardır, ama adı üstünde onlar birer istisnadır. ― Exceptions indeed exist, but, as their name would suggest, they are exceptions.
