Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *anþeraz (“second, other”). Cognate with Old English ōþer, Old Frisian ōther, Old Saxon ōthar, Old Dutch andar, ander, Old High German andar, Gothic 𐌰𐌽𐌸𐌰𐍂 (anþar).
