bërrakë
Albanian edit
Etymology edit
A formation from birë, with similar -r- > -rr- change as in bërryl.[1] Related to Greek βράγος (vrágos, “shallows”). Jokl argues for a substrate origin, identifying the word with the ancient Balkan stem bar- in river names. [2]
