Via some European language, ultimately from Latin physiologia, from Ancient Greek φυσιολογία (phusiología, natural philosophy), from φύσις (phúsis, nature) and λόγος (lógos, word, treatise) with the suffix -ία (-ía) (Latvian -ija).
