Scottish Gaelic edit

Etymology edit

From Old Irish *in(d)ber, from Proto-Celtic *endo-ber-o- (carrying in), from *endo- (in) (see *ande-), from Proto-Indo-European *en-do- (in(wards), down) (from *h₁én (in)) + *bʰer-o- (carrying). Analogous to Welsh aber (river mouth, confluence), which is ultimately from Proto-Celtic *adberos, constructed with *ad (at, to, towards).
