From Proto-Algonquian *ešinaᐧkwatwi (“to look (a certain way)”). From li- (“in a certain manner”, preverb) + na- (“to see”, verb medial) + -ëkw- (“inverts subject and object”, inverse theme marker) + at (“nominalizer”, final).
