This is generally believed to be an acronym, variously considered to stand for "Snot-Nosed, Egotistical, Rude Teenager", "Snot-Nosed Eros-Ridden Teenager", "Sexually Nerdish Egotistically Rude Troll", or similar.

(Internet slang) A participant in online discussions who is generally obnoxious and insulting.
