Etymology edit
From Latin sūcidus, probably through the intermediate of Old Occitan sotz.[1][2][3] Less likely directly through a Vulgar Latin form *sud(i)cius, following metathesis.[4] Doublet of sudicio and sucido. Compare Sicilian zuzzu (and zozzu).
