- Any fruit with a soft fleshy exterior surrounding a hard pit or stone containing the seed.
- Any plant in the genus Prunus.
Usage notes edit
- References to "the stone fruits", or to stone fruits as a group are usually references to members of the genus Prunus (plums, cherries, and related plants). Similarly constructed fruits from other groups of plants, such as olives, are described with the more general term drupe.
