Romanian edit

Etymology 1 edit

From sughița, or possibly from Vulgar Latin suggluttium (attested in some glosses), ultimately from Latin singultus, and influenced by gluttiō. Compare Aromanian sugljits, Portuguese soluço, Spanish sollozo, Calabrian sogliuttu, suggiuttu, Sicilian sugghiuzzu. Compare also Italian singhiozzo, from *singlutius, from singultus.
