taghyr
Manx edit
Etymology edit
From Middle Irish tachraid, from Old Irish do·cuirethar (“to put”). Note that the suppleted perfect of do·cuirethar, do·rala, came to assume the meaning "to happen", a development reflected in Irish tarlaigh and Scottish Gaelic tàrlaidh. In the evolution of Manx this innovated sense seemed to be transferred onto tachraid instead, with all other literal senses of do·cuirethar being lost.

taghyr (verbal noun taghyrt)
