Etymology edit

An idiomatic phrase literally meaning "work it" or "work them". This construction, involving a verb (usually intransitive) in the imperative with ze as direct object to wish good luck with the activity described by the verb, is chiefly found in this phrase. Occasionally one may encounter variants with other verbs, e.g. studeer ze (“good luck with studying!”), eet ze (“chow down!”).
