From Middle French échoppe, from Old French eschope, escope, from Middle Dutch schoppe, scoppe, from Old Dutch *scoppa, from Proto-Germanic *skup- (shed, stall). Cognate with German Schupfen, Schuppen (shed), Dutch schop (barn, shack), English shop. More at shop.
