Etymology edit

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اوگله (öğle), variant of اویله (öyle, noon), from earlier *öδleg, from Proto-Turkic *ödleg (time) < *ödle- < *öd (time). Cognate to Karakhanid اُذْ (öδ, time), اُذْلَكْ (öδleg, time), Southern Altai ӧй (öy, time), Old Turkic 𐰇𐰓 (öd, time). The sense "noon, midday" was already attested in the 13th century Central Asia.
