Symbol edit

˷

  1. (extIPA, after a segment) a creaky-voice off-glide.
  2. (extIPA, before a segment) a creaky onset.
  3. (IPA, dated) a low oscillating tone, such as rising–falling–rising.

Usage notes edit

The tone mark is placed before the word or syllable that bears the tone. This symbol is effectively obsolete, having been replaced by Chao tone letters and tone diacritics.
