From Scythian *mava, *mauka (hero, tiger) (cf. Khotanese mauya, muyi (tiger); Sogdian 𐼺𐼷𐼴 (myu), 𐫖𐫏𐫇 (myu, tiger)).[1]

Cognate with Gandhari 𐨨𐨆𐨀 (moa) and 𐨨𐨆𐨒 (moga).
