Etymology

From Ancient Greek ἀκτινογραφία (aktinographía, description of light rays). The modern medical sense of X-ray or radiography in modern times is derived from ακτίνα (aktína, ray, radius) +‎ -γραφία (-grafía, -graphy), calque of French radiographie. Modern medical sense first attested 1897.
