Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀρίφνητος (aríphnētos), from Byzantine Greek ἀναρίφνητος (anaríphnētos), from Ancient Greek ἀναρίθμητος (anaríthmētos, countless, innumerable, immeasurable) replacing consonant cluster [θm] with [fn] and the prefix ἀνα- (ana-) with ἀ- (a-).[1]
