Etymology

edit

From Demotic qd (substance, character, form), from Egyptian qdy (substance, character, form). This etymology, however, is rejected by Carsten (1999: 108). He argues that a change from masculine to feminine is unlikely, and the fact that "qd" ceased to be used in Demotic in later times.[1]
