Bashkir edit

Etymology edit

A 20th century innovation, perhaps influenced by the name of Jean-Paul Marat, a French politician during the French Revolution who was touted in the Soviet Union as a precursor of communism. Apparently reinforced in Bashkir by its similarity to the traditional first name Морат (Morat).
