Inherited from Old East Slavic вепрь (veprĭ), from Proto-Slavic *veprь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *weprios, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ep-r-. Cognate with Russian вепрь (veprʹ), Old Polish wieprz, Old Czech vepř.
