Etymology

edit

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *gomonъ (noise). Possibly formed from the onomatopoeic гом (gom, cry, noise), preserved in some dialects as гам (gam). The Proto-Slavic etymon is possibly related to or, alternatively, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *gamaną (game, fun, amusement).
