Formed from дре́безг (drébezg, jingle, tinkle) +‎ -а́ть (-átʹ, stative suffix). The root is from Proto-Slavic *drebězgъ, cognate with Lithuanian drebė̃znos pl, drebė̃nos pl (remnants), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *dreb-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrebʰ-.[1]
