Inherited from Old East Slavic зогзулꙗ (zogzulja), зегзулꙗ (zegzulja), from жегъзулꙗ (žegŭzulja), from Proto-Slavic *žegъzuľa.[1][2][3] Cognate with dialectal Russian жегозу́ля (žegozúlja) and Polish gżegżółka.
