From Proto-Turkic *etek (lap, edge of a clothing).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (etäk, lap, edge of a clothing); Kazakh етек (etek, lap, edge of a clothing), Uzbek etak (lap, edge of a clothing), Uyghur ئېتەك (ëtek, lap, edge of a clothing), Khakas идек (idek, lap, edge of a clothing), etc.
