Etymology edit

From Proto-Mordvinic *kərga. Likely borrowed from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerh₃- (to swallow, devour). The connection with Finnish kurkku and Estonian kurk is considered doubtful.

Cognate with Moksha кърга (kərga).
