From Proto-Turkic *kēč (evening; late). Related to кисә (kisə, yesterday).

Cognate to Old Uyghur [script needed] (keč, late), Tatar кич (kiç, evening), Kazakh кеш (keş, evening; late), Kyrgyz кеч (kec, evening; late), Karachay-Balkar кеч (keç, evening; late), Turkish geç (late), Turkmen gij (late), Chuvash каҫ (kaś, evening, night).
