Etymology edit

From *čaqïrïm (the distance at which a shout as a voice signal can be heard; earshot), from Proto-Turkic *čaqïr- (to call, hail).

Cognate with Kazakh шақырым (şaqyrym), Kyrgyz чакырым (cakırım), Southern Altai чакырым (čakïrïm), Kumyk чакъырым (çaqırım), Uzbek chaqirim, Uyghur چاقىرىم (chaqirim), Turkmen çakyrym (verst).
