Etymology

Derived via Western European languages from Late Latin tautologia, from Ancient Greek ταὐτολογία (tautología) from ταὐτός (tautós, the same), with -ло́гія (-lóhija) ending from Ancient Greek -λογία (-logía). Compare Russian тавтоло́гия (tavtológija), Belarusian таўтало́гія (taŭtalóhija), Polish tautologia.
