BashkirEdit

EtymologyEdit

From Old Turkic toγru "direct; correct; just", from Proto-Turkic, apparently via a Karluk source (compare Uzbek to'g'ri (straight, direct), Uyghur тоғра (toghra, correct)), such as Literary Chagatai. This is indicated by a pecualiar semantic shift and the retention of -ğ-.

Compare with native тура (tura, straight, direct), which developed along the regular Kypchak path way from the same Turkic archetype.

PronunciationEdit

  • IPA(key): [tʊ̞ʁ.ˈrʊ̞]
  • Hyphenation: тоғ‧ро

AdjectiveEdit

тоғро (toğro)

  1. loyal, faithful
    Ат — кешенең тоғро юлдашы.
    At — kešeneñ toğro yuldašï.
The horse is man's faithful companion.
