тулуп
Russian edit
Etymology 1 edit
Unclear. There are two theories:
- from an East Slavic form meaning “body” and probably ending in /b/ (as in Ukrainian ту́луб (túlub, “torso”)), thus cognate with ту́ловище (túlovišče), Old East Slavic ту́лово (túlovo);
- a Turkic borrowing, cf. Kazakh тұлып (tūlyp, “lambskin bag; stuffed animal skin”), Chagatai [script needed] (tulb, “leather bag”).
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
тулу́п • (tulúp) m inan (genitive тулу́па, nominative plural тулу́пы, genitive plural тулу́пов)
Declension edit
Declension of тулу́п (inan masc-form hard-stem accent-a)
Descendants edit
Etymology 2 edit
