Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic тъщеславьѥ (tŭšteslavĭje, vainglory), itself a calque of Ancient Greek κενοδοξία (kenodoxía, vainglory). By surface analysis, тще- (tšče-) +‎ слава (slava) +‎ -ие (-ije).
