Inherited from Bulgar [script needed] (altmıl, sixty),[1] itself inherited from Proto-Turkic *altmïĺ (sixty),[2][3] equivalent to улттӑ (ulttă, six) + -мӑл (-măl).

Cognate with Khalaj altmış, Turkish altmış, Uzbek oltmish and Bashkir алтмыш (altmış).
