From Proto-Turkic *uč- (to fly). Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (uč-); Kyrgyz учуу (ucuu), Kazakh ұшу (ūşu), Karachay-Balkar учаргъа (uçarğa), Kumyk учмакъ (uçmaq), Bashkir осоу (osow), Tatar очарга (oçarga), Uzbek uchmoq, Azerbaijani uçmaq, Turkish uçmak, Turkmen uçmaq, Salar , Tuvan ужар (ujar), Tofa уъһяр, Western Yugur uč-, etc.

Compare also Shor учуғар and Khakas учуғар (uçuğar).
