хошного
Mongolian edit
Etymology edit
Cognate with Buryat хошхоног (xošxonog) and Kalmyk хошхнг (xoşxng), featuring irregular loss of -хо- (-xo-).
Perhaps from a Turkic language, see Common Turkic *kušgun (“crupper”, reconstruction uncertain).
Alternatively a native derivation equivalent to хос (xos, “sheep colon”) + *хоног (*xonog), the second part being unidentified.
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
хошного • (xošnogo) (Mongolian spelling ᠬᠣᠰᠬᠢᠨᠠᠭ (qoskinag)); (regular declension)
