editPossibly from Old Ossetic *cæfxaδ, metathesized from *cæxfaδ, from earlier *cægfaδ, from *cæg (“ring”) + *faδ (“foot”),[1][2] from Proto-Ossetic *faδi, from Proto-Scythian *páδi, from Proto-Iranian *pā́dah. Equivalent to цӕг (cæg, “ring”) + фад (fad, “foot”).
