From *ïšanč ~ *išenč (trust, confidence, hope), from Proto-Turkic *ïĺan-~*iĺen- (to believe, trust).

Cognate with Tatar ышаныч (ışanıç, trust, confidence; hope), Karachay-Balkar ышанч (ışanç, hope, reliance), Uzbek ishonch (trust, confidence; hope); Uyghur ишәнч (ishench, hope, reliance), Southern Altai ижениш (iženiš, hope, reliance, gullibility), Khakas ізеніс (ìzenìs, hope, reliance, gullibility).
