Etymology
editFrom currently obscure неләд (neläd), which is inherited from Proto-Mongolic *neliyed, plural of *neliyen. Cognate with Mongolian нилээд (nileed). The word must have been borrowed from an Oirat dialect into Tuvan; see элээн (eleen, “considerable”), which demonstrates both the unexpected deletion of /n/ as well as the original singular form.
