Etymology edit
From Proto-Mordvinic *jovtams, inherited from Proto-Finno-Ugric *jupta-~*jukta- (“to speak, to tell”). Cognate with Finnish juttu (“talk; thing; affair”), jutella (“to chat”), Estonian ütlema (“to say; pronounce”), Livonian jutlõ.
