Etymology

edit

From *yetäkči (guide, the person who leads), which in the meaning of "manager" appears to be a Central Asian innovation; derived from *yetäk "the action of leading a horse on a lead rope, or leading a person by the hand", from Proto-Turkic *yēt- (to lead a person or animal).

Cognate with Kazakh жетекші (jetekşı), Nogai етекши (yetekşi), Kyrgyz жетекчи (jetekci), Uzbek yetakchi, Uyghur يېتەكچى (yëtekchi, leader, manager); also compare with Khakas чидекчі (çidekçì, a blind person's guide), Tuvan чедикчи (çedikçi, a blind person's guide), etc.
