Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yagmur (“rain”);[1][2] equivalent to ҫу (śu, “to rain”) + -мӑр (-măr).[3]

Cognate with Turkish yağmur, Uzbek yomgʻir, Bashkir ямғыр (yamğır) and Yakut самыыр (samıır).
