An Iranian borrowing, probably Parthian. Compare Persian آبگینه (âbgina), Middle Persian ʾp̄ḵynk' (ābgēnag, crystal, glass), Sogdian [script needed] (ʾʾpkynʾk, crystal), Ossetian авг (avg).
