From Proto-Indo-European *bʰuǵ-. Cognate with Avestan [script needed](būza-, he-goat), Middle Persian bwc(buc), Persian بز(boz, goat), Proto-Germanic *bukkaz, Proto-Celtic *bukkos(buck). Related to Old Armenian բզաք(bzakʿ, he-goat), from Iranian.
